This scene captured the child’s game of Ninja’s which erupted spontaneously between myself and a friend at 3am outside a snooker bar in Florianópolis, Brazil. To our pleasant surprise an onlooker joined in for a series of rounds.

The enlarged hands and rounded bodies are a nod to Brazilian artist Tarsila do Amaral’s Abaporu. Like Abaporu’s enlarged foot, the hands in this case are disproportionate to the rest of the body to emphasise their momentary reimagination as ninja swords.
