I would like to invite you all to play, so that you can side-step reality and create magic out of the everyday. Play requires seeing the world around us like a child, as an accumulation of things, devoid of function. This critique invites appropriation, which involves the dismantling of things and building them anew, a reordering of such between object and player. The resultant relationship causes a change in meaning and a moment of rediscovery, like Situationist International's use of détournement, Eduardo Paolozzi's sculptural techniques and James Turrell's land alterations. The more absurd the play, the greater the creation of unexpected meaning and presence out of the ordinary.

My work maps these manifestations of play as various forms of painted notation, like an illuminated music manuscript. Pink is present in all pieces for its intrinsically playful character, historically absurd association between boys and girls, the fact that it does not physically exist and because I like the colour.

WHy aRe aLL TiTLeS WRiTTeN LiKe THiS? The titles represent play restricted by the conventions of becoming an adult. Capitalised consonants stand in for the restrictive conventions as they are letters representing a speech sound with a closure of the vocal tract, while lowercase vowels represent play as they are pronounced without any stricture. Vowels vary in quality, loudness and quantity. When people are having fun they let out free vowel sounds, like 'wooooo', 'waheiiii' and 'hohoooo'.
